NB Some people have indicated that they are coming to the Friday morning assembly and the Saturday family picnic and fun day, but they have not officially registered. There will be a lot more people at our gatherings than appear on the registration list.

Ouruhia School opened on 18th May 1914 with 25 pupils. Now we have 100 pupils in 5 classrooms, and we are excited to celebrate 100 years at Ouruhia School at the end of October this year.

On Friday 31 October we are starting the day with a special assembly with our special guest, Lianne Dalziel, the Mayor of Christchurch. This will be followed by a walk-through of the classrooms to see how schools have changed over the years.
From 7.00 - 10.00 p.m. on Friday evening, there is an informal get-together at school to meet former school friends and acquaintances. There will be drinks and nibbles, and a chance to view displays in classrooms.

On Saturday 1 November, we are having a family picnic and fun day at school. There will be a brief commemorative ceremony and items performed by school pupils, and official photos taken. Come along and enjoy a mix of new and old-fashioned games.

Two special projects for the centennial are underway:

1. A group of children from Rooms 4&5 are working with Howard Pettigrew to research and produce a DVD about Ouruhia School’s history. This DVD movie will be premiered at the centennial celebrations.

2. We are drawing up plans for a special landscaped seating area under our cherry trees beside the Admin block. This area will have a commemorative plaque to mark the centennial, and will be a beautiful addition to our grounds. When you register for the centennial, we are asking for donations for this special project, so please consider gifting $25, $50, $100, $200 (or more?) to make this happen, or talk to us about sponsoring some of the seating (email 100years@ouruhia.school.nz ).
We are still looking for people to help build the seating area (paving/concreting, seating, planting gardens…). If you would like to help and be part of making our celebrations memorable, please see Sonya Boyd, Mark or Raewyn ph 323 8855
